The blog goes to Prague (and so did we!).
After a road trip from Frankfurt to the Czech Republic, we arrived in Prague! We took it easy on our first evening and strolled around the shopping areas near our apartment. We started off our official day 1 with a coffee & pastry at a darling cafe just steps from our apartment. Perfect amount of caffeination and sustenance to fill us up for a day of seeing and walking (and walking and walking).
We traveled with our favs, the Pearson fam, and because, in combination, we're 8+baby+stroller we scheduled a private walking tour. I highly recommend this if you have the opportunity. It was so nice to be able to take our time, stop for snickety-snacks and freely ask questions along the way. We saw a good chunk of the city while also getting great restaurant recommendations from our guide.
It was a super beautiful - albeit slightly warm - day. And I probably should have worn shorts, but THESE pants. I just had to wear THESE pants! I bought them at MANGO recently and tried to hunt down the link for ya, but they were nowhere to be found...! I'm super obsessed so you'll probably see them a time (or five) again :)
The first stop on our walking tour was the Metalmorphosis sculpture of Franz Kafka. It really was mesmerizing. The sculpture is made up of 42 independently rotating layers that move toward & away from one another before ending in the form of Franz Kafka's head. Kafka was a Prague-born writer, very influential in the 20th Century. The name of the sculpture references one of his primary works (that I totally remember being creeped out by in my high school lit class),
We took the tram to the Presidential Palace and found a beautiful view of the city.
We walked down thru this area of town & crossed the St. Charles Bridge. It was CRAZY crowded, but we still managed to get some good photos. There are lots of cute vendors lining the bridge and if you want to spend more time on this part of your trip, I'd recommend going as early in the day as you can manage to wake up! Especially if touring on a weekend!
Asher LOVED watching the water & the boats, we could barely get him to turn around for a pic.
By this point we were all - for lack of a better word - HANGRY. And HOT. And our feet were ready for a serious break. There are so many restaurants in the Old Town area, but we had some trouble finding a restaurant that was cool enough to cool us down as the majority aren't air conditioned. I usually like to plan ahead when it comes to restaurants, because who wants to roam around aimlessly whilst HANGRY?? NOT ME. But we weren't sure where our walking tour would end, so we left this lunch open. So we popped into a random restaurant that had plenty of (cool) space for our lively group. And it was delicious. Randomness rewarded. Restaurace Mincovna actually gets 4.5 stars on Trip Advisor. And we totally agreed. So for sure add this modern Czech restaurant to your Prague must-eats-list.
But these delish dishes weren't the only tasties that we indulged in... If you google or pinterest the city of Prague, you'll find posts and posts and posts about their specialty pastry called 'Trdelník.' I wanted to eat 1000 of them. I settled for 1. They are cinnamony, doughy, delights that can be filled with whipped cream, ice cream, and fruit. Topped with sugar, chocolate, nuts, etc. I enjoyed mine plain - but after snacking on it, I decided that it would be best paired with cheesecake filling. Anyone know if they offer that option in Prague? Because. Yum.
Like I said. YUM.
If this series of pics looks sort of familiar-ish...its because I love Trdelniks (almost) as much as I love frites.
So after food and more food, we walked and shopped around. I found an adorable handmade bath & body store called Ars Natura. I may have purchased a few somethings for some lucky US family members (PS I'm counting myself as a family member). The packaging and scents are just to die for delicious.
We took a little break, had a cocktail and rested in our apartment before dinner. And then called it a day! Our feet felt the millions of steps we must have taken that day so Jason and I set up some foot ice-baths and watched House of Cards on Netflix. (remember what I said about spending more time in your home-away-from-home when you travel with a baby?).
PS. We can't get season 5 of HOC in Germany, but we could in Prague...too bad we don't live in Prague. We only got through 1/2 of episode 2.
Next up, our (rainy but lovely) last day in Prague! AKA: When we found out what John Lennon and graffiti have in common.
