Hosting our first houseguests!
Words really don't capture just how excited we were to host our friends from The States. We have been in Germany for exactly 3 months and [while that really doesn't sound like a long time when you put it in writing] I'll admit I've started to get the first sniffles of homesickness. All of the expat blogs I've read & people I've talked to say that you experience a 'honeymoon' phase in your first couple of months abroad. Everything is new and exciting and you're ready to [literally] take on the world. I still feel this way, but the combination of a bit of time away, endless FaceTime convos & the start of spring sunshine had me craving some actual time with familiar faces.
Enter...the Wilsons!! This family of 3 braved international travel to spend the week with us. By the way, this was their baby's FIRST EVER flight! What a way to do it -- first flight, first passport stamp and all before the ripe old age of 9 months. The start to their trip was spent getting adjusted to the time shift and hanging at our place. Which was awesome for us. Because -- no joke -- other than IKEA delivery workers, they're basically the first people to step foot in our new digs.
They were troopers and after a day and a half or so-ish, were ready to get out and explore. We took them to one of our fav nearby cities, Wiesbaden. You've read about this cute city in a previous post. But the weather was WAY more enjoyable this time around :)
After researching some restaurants, we landed upon Bäckerbrunnen. It had a HUGE outdoor patio which was a perfect compliment to the perfect weather we had that day -- and allowed us plenty of room for strollers & noise cancellation for chatty babies [who in the photo below are both eating coasters...parents of the year ;) ]
We dined a traditional German feast. It was delicious and filling. And our server was super patient with me as I practiced my [in-progress] German-language ordering skills. PS of course we topped off our schnitzel with some German wein & bier.
The babies 'let' us take a leisurely lunch which gave us plenty of time to catch-up and allow for some much-needed girl talk.
After lunch, we walked around Wiesbaden to shop and lull the babies into some snoozy stroller naps. My girl, Kendra, rocked her first day as a touristy mama and looked fabulous doing it.
We stopped to check out the Marktkirche (translates to Market Church) before heading home. On weekends there is a huge market set up just in front of it. It will be a great Saturday spot for us now that the weather has warmed up!
We made time for a few fun foto opps, too [#duh].
And then got our ONE group pic of the WHOLE trip...I don't know how we managed to forget to follow-up with some more, but it is what it is...wah wah. ALSO, despite the baby side-eyes happening in this pic, I PROMISE they LOVED being with each other. Their excitement at seeing each other each morning was the cutest thing I've ever seen in.my.whole.entire.life.
And this was just DAY ONE of our activity with the Wilsons! Up next, being tourists in our little town & a road trip to Düsseldorf.
Thanks for stopping by, I know its been a WHILE since my last post. :)
ever yours,
lindsey
