Czech'ed it off the list.
Our road trip to Prague started off with BBQ that did not disappoint and a private walking tour set with the sunniest backdrop. Our next day in the Czech Republic was a rainy one, but just as lovely. We started off with a delicious breakfast at Cafe Louvre, a restaurant with a history all on its own.
It has been around since 1902 with famous diners including Kafka, Einstein and a slew of Czech and German writers and actors. It was a HUGE restaurant with plenty of space for our crew. The breakfast menu is ala carte so you can choose to order anything and everything that sounds tasty. Definitely get a cappuccino or hot chocolate to start...Each are delicious and served with a spot of sparkling water to cleanse the palate before moving on to the breakfast courses.
After breakfast, the rain set in. It was drizzling along our stroll back to the St. Charles Bridge. But we waited it out for a bit and got a dry enough spell to be touristy :)
A sweet older couple stopped as we were taking a pic and asked if we wanted a full group shot. It was so very nice of them! And we love that we actually have 2 group photos from this trip....last time we barely remembered to get one!
Next, we headed to the John Lennon Wall. To be honest, I didn't have a clue as to why there even was a John Lennon wall (or a John Lennon anything) in Prague, but when I was researching cool Prague spots, this wall kept coming up. My mamacita is a HUGE Beatles fan, I walked down the aisle to 'Here Comes the Sun' and our wedding exit song was 'All You Need is Love' sooooo we figured it only made sense to stop and check out the hype-worthy wall.
I also did a little more research... here's the scoop... Before 1980 it was a normal wall. After John Lennon's death in 1980, it became a place for people to graffiti their wishes for hope, peace and love - basically a love letter to all things anti-communism as John Lennon became somewhat of a symbolic hero for the pacifist youth in Central & Eastern Europe at the time. Beatles lyrics took the forefront because much of Western pop music was actually banned during totalitarian and communist rule. And represented the freedoms that this part of the world kept from experiencing. The original portrait of John Lennon has been covered beyond covered over the years, but people still visit the wall to leave their marks. There's your (and my) history lesson for the day!
Like, its a seriously fantastic photo location...huh????
These ended up being some of my fav pics from the whole trip.
(T.Pearson gets total photo cred for these 2 cutie man pics)
So fun. And it's located in a really cute part of town called the Malá Strana (translation: Little Quarter). It's slightly off the main path of the Charles Bridge crowds, with restaurants and local shops. We found a pizza place, Casanova, around the corner that made for the perfect lunch (and wine) stop.
Pizza is such a crowd pleaser. And just about the only food we have consistently found in each of our travel destinations so far. And Kids + Pizza = Happy.
The Pearson kids are so kind and energetic. Asher absolutely LOVES spending time with them...
... And I love it too. For lots of reasons. But ... Well ... for one ... momma gets a break. :)
After lunch we were caught in a literal torrential downpour. Like, soaking wet. So we hid out in a cafe for an hour or so while it calmed down. Then we parted with the Pearsons for a bit. They had a blast in the wax museum and Jason and I found a (rain-free) outdoor spot for some one on one (+baby) time and a Czech beer.
The beer garden was so cute (and that hubs of mine isn't too hard on the eyes either).
So we were just enjoying some quiet time outside (baby had mucho perfecto nap timing) taking in the scenery AND THEN...we went inside where we were totally transported to the set of Game of Thrones. You guys, we are MAJOR GOT'ers. And this place had us John Snowed to the max.
It's called Krčma U Pavouka. Translation: The Spider Tavern. So cool.
At night, they have live medieval music, belly dancers, fire breathers, etc. It's possible that locals view this as the Czech equivalent of Medieval Times...but, whatever, we are pretty obsessed.
We headed back to the apartment so the little manski could scoot some energy out before dinner. We ate at a Mexican restaurant -- sounds weird to eat Mexican in Prague, but there is virtually no (good) Mexican food in Germany and we craaaaave it like crazy. So anytime we spot one on a trip, we try it. Then the next day we hit the road for home. Asher was not a happy car-camper at all. But, we made it home in one piece and booked our next trip!
We're actually heading to the States (yet again) next week for Asher's 1st bday celebration AND the last Murray brother's wedding!! Should be a fun couple of weeks! Plenty o' Blog-Worthy-Photo-Opps to come!
ever yours,
lindsey
